Rashmi Sathe is a designer, artist, researcher and academician from Mumbai, India.
She is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Arts Linz, Austria, has a Masters degree in Fine Arts (Critical Image Practices) from HSLU Switzerland and a bachelor's
degree in Fashion Design from India.
Her PhD practice revolves around exploring non- visual images with a focus on
sensorial processes and translation of senses at its core. Her artworks explore the
fluid boundaries of how images are perceived, in- between the visual and the non-
visual. It further negotiates the contradictions and tension between what an image
can be when reduced to almost nothing versus a non-visual sensory overload. Her
practice aims to create a balance between the contrasting worlds of my
commercial design practice and my non -visual art practice.
Some of the latest art projects and fashion illustrations, reflecting a blend of storytelling, cultural influences, and contemporary style.
These works explore translocal, multisensory themes through mixed media techniques, from digital and hand-drawn illustration to collage, laser-cut detailing, ephemeral sand installations and participatory performances.
